1.) Clean up the Aprilia and install replacement graphics kit to make it look new again.

2.) Do some work to the Honda. I want a full exhaust, dyno time, get the suspension tuned back up, do some brake work, make it black.

3.) Sell the fighter

4.) Make my garage nicer.

Well, I just bought an Akra full dual exhaust system from a person on the AF1 forums so the modding has begun and the Aprilia stays. Pictures will be posted when the stuff gets here. This system gives some big gains on the Ape twin motor. It originally goes for $2200 and I got it for $500 shipped. There are some scratches and suck that I have to fix but for the price who gives a damn.

nice score dude, you're gonna love the akras, the whole system weighs less than the stock can for one, then there's that ever so slight power gain :twofinger:. You getting the chip and chain guide with it or is it just the pipes? Also, just an fyi, the part of the pipe that crosses above the side stand has a good size dent in it. This is intentional as it allows for clearance between the stand and the pipe. Lastly, you will probably have trouble getting at the peg on your sidestand once the pipes are in place since it doesn't stick out quite enough to get your heel on it. I ended up putting a piece of pipe on the peg and with the stand up and the bike on a rear stand, GENTLY bending it forward. Just some tips for you.

Sounds good Ian. I have an Evoluzione chip with the two maps so I don't care about the Akra chip. To be honest I forgot about that when I bought the system. I may end up going the power commander route with a full tune and Wagner powersports. I did know about the kick stand dent from all the threads on AF1. I did not know about the kick stand peg though. I will have to bring my kick stand to work after the pipes are installed and weld on a small extension.
From all the parts he is sending me it looks like there is a stock header set up and another aftermarket two into one set up also. He had a lot of stuff in those pics. I amy be able to use the other header to sell my Leo can as a full system and get my money back.

I just bought a sweet and very rare carbon fiber Aprilia Tuono front fairing. this piece was sold with the 2003 Tuono Race model. they only shipped 50 of these bikes to the US and 200 worldwide. This Tuono Race got a street fairing and a track fairing. this model is the track faring so there is no headlight cut out. I am going to use a projector bulb in there with just a small hole cut out for the light. Pics will follow when the part arrives. Looks like the Mille will become a Full on Tuono.

This build is going to be a lot of performance tuning for the motor and also I am making it naked (of course, Duh). So far I have been searching out and buying the parts for the build. I don't have pictures of the parts but they will be here next week so I will take them then.

My plans are:
Full dual exhaust system good for 10hp across the rev range.
Bore out the throttle body's to 54mm or convert the 57mm body's from a newer gen RSV1000 good for another 7hp
Full map tune for the previous parts
Adjustable fuel regulator.
Racetech valves in the forks and a new rear shock.

Body:
Yank the fairings and cut the lower for a scoop look.
Fabricate ram air scoops. Might try fiberglass for my first time.
Tuono front racing fairing with no light cut out.
Ducati 999 projector headlight setup.
Replace the stock graphics on the tail.
Replace the radiator overflow with a SS canister like the one on my Gixxer.
Integrated rear blinkers (home built)

Already done: I already converted the bike over to Tuono bars. It makes the bike a fucking wheelie machine. Any speed up to 4 gear and it just lifts right up to balance point. that will be bad for my license.

So far:
I found a Tuono full carbon fiber Racing fairing for $300. This thing is super rare and it came with the 2003 Tuono Racing model. That model had a full street fairing kit and a track only kit. I bought the track only nose so I can do the projector lights.

I bought an Akrapovic Full dual titanium exhaust system for $500. This kit sells for $2200 before taxes and shipping. The only thin is the owner crashed and damaged the cans which is why I got it so cheep. No big deal though because the damage is on the ends so I am just going to cut off a few inches of the can and then sand out the scratches out of the titanium.

I also picked up a blinker harness for hooking up a truck to the trailer. I am going to use this to convert my blinkers directly in the the two tail lights. This cost me $15 instead of the $60 that the stores want for an actual integrator kit.

So far that is it. Pics will come when I start getting the parts in.

Alright I got's more pic's of part from todays mail. The Ducati projector light showed up and the damn housing is HUGE. I think I am gonna pull out the lights and make my own housing or cut the shit out of that one so I can have the factory adjusters on them. I have to take it apart to figure it out. The Akra cans came in today and the Headers will be here tomorrow. The damage on the cans are not that bad so it should only need about 4 inches to be cut off to get rid of the bad stuff. Twins like big exhaust cans so I cannot cut off too much just for looks since I am trying to squeeze a lot of power out of the bike this winter.

I started my tear down yesterday. The exhuast is yanked, all the panels are off, gas tank pulled and the beginning phase of mocking up the projector headlight mount has begun. It looks like I have to put them side by side instead of over-under. I have plenty of room thought so the mount will be easy to make. Pictures to follow tonight.

Nice Job Matt,

The finished project should be sick!!

FYI....Yesterday when I went to Libby's in New Haven they had a 2000 Mille that look brand new . I don't know the mileage or asking $.

What did you do for risers for the Tuono tubular bars?

Damn...I had a 2003 Tuono. I bought it new. SN 00000003. Fuck....I wish that I had kept it!!! I did a bunch of stuff to it including an Akra slip on. The thing rocked!!

Great deal on the Akra system for the Mille.

Have fun...........Sean

I did some work to the bike recently.

First thing I did was fix the exhaust canisters. One can had some rash on it so I took them to work and shortened them up by two inches and spun the damaged inlet around to hid it on the inside. I also cut strips from the scrap titanium housing and made new straps for the end so it will look factory. I am very happy with the way they came out.

See the damage on the end of the inlet.

I also started the fab work to mount the Projector lights. I actually made the mock up mounts out of aluminum but the test mounts are shown here out of thin lexan. This is much easier for fitting reasons.

The lights will be side to side and I was able to retain the Ducati factory light adjusters so I can set the height and angle on the fly. I had to do some bracket mods to get the low beem to be on the right side since the mount had the angle adjuster on the left. I needed it to be on the ride so I flips the mount and modded the light to still be the right way up.

The next thing to do is get the holes cut out of the fairing and also covnert the stock wiring harness to accept the new style bulbs.

So even though I have not updated what I have been doing, I have been working on the bike. Here she is as of this morning. I am have Fastyankee make some graphics for me to cover the ugly yellow number plate and I still have a lot os small thing to do but other than that the main work is finished. The bike is ridable right now but still needs the rear blinkers finished, Racetech forks valves installed, new tires, tune up and I have a new motor with only 8000 miles that needs to be put in at some point.

Work done so far. The whole Tuono conversion finished, Ducati projector lights fabbed in, exhuast repaired and installed, fuel pressure modifier installed.

Some pics.

what made you choose the ducati projectors? why not s2000 or tsx that are known to have excellent cutoffs? just curious.

Kane
03-27-2009, 04:20 AM
Because Ducati projectors are what came to mind and they have provisions for mounting on a bike and I could retain the factory knob adjusters for setting height and angle. Plus they are fully sealed and from what I read most others are desgined to fit into a housing that is sealed but the light itself is not. These were very easy to figure out how to mount and I found them for very cheep on Ebay. There might be better option but at the time this seemed to be the best for me and I know Ducati does not mess around with anything they have on their bikes. I knew these would be solid and they are nicely built.

weld
03-27-2009, 09:54 AM
ah, yeah i forgot about the mounting without housings issue. usually first thing i think of when projectors are mentioned is the cutoff line and output. i've been thinking about doing a retrofit for quite a while but never get the motivation to do all that work. be careful with rocks/bugs on those exposed lenses. looks great so far.

Kane
03-27-2009, 05:02 PM
Those lens are set up the same way they are on the Ducati so I am hoping they will be fine.
