View Full Version : NJMP Check in

Whew!
The last two days were a blast! Although it rained on and off all day on Monday, there was plenty of people out, having fun and making the most of it, and it showed on Tuesday, as the people who had been out getting laps in the rain put that practice to use on the dry track. Tuesday's weather was perfect, not too hot, sunny, and dry. I really do love that track, it's a completely different animal from Loudon, mostly because the surface is so new and smooth. Even on some cooler laps, not going full throttle, it's crazy fun to ride. Once me and my SV started talking out our problems, I think I had as much or more fun on the lower HP bike out there.
It was great to see a bunch of familiar faces, including some I hadn't seen since last season. Also great to meet some new people down there. Hope to see everyone next month in NH, if not sooner. Even with a race weekend and a NH trackday coming, I can't wait to get back down to Thunderbolt. :D

We're back and somewhat unpacked after a little unintentional detour through the Bronx.
There was a lot of stuff to take in from that place, rain and shine.
Also, fuck NJMP and their grass.

Home safe... exhausted.
I think I rode more in the last 2 days than in the last 6 trackdays!
For those that like to do trackdays, definitely invest in rain tires if you haven't already. I rode 2 full tanks of gas in the rain without one tire slip.
Personally, I am using the Michelin brand, but have heard good things about the Bridgestones too. Some people were at odds with the Pirelli rains, but even those guys were going pretty good before the tires slipped.
Anyway, it was a great two days overall. There are still some issues with the track that I will be dealing with (like speakers in the garage, etc) but I really feel it is a nice complement to Loudon as far as bike skills.
This was day 3 and 4 for me at Thunderbolt, and I am just now "getting it". And it definitely improved my RIGHT turns. :twofinger:
Now it's time to prepare for New Hampshire. For those coming next month that haven't signed up... only about 15 spots left.
OK, the 3 cups of coffee for the ride home are starting to wear off... time for bed. :D

Well, I was only there for Monday but just having that experience, seeing how everything works, and hanging out with the BoRn guys made it worth it. I hope to see most of you at NH in May
I got home at a nice early 10:20 pm last night. the whole ride home was smooth sailing. Oddly enough I am not that whooped this time around. i did a ton of cardio over the winter and it paid off on the track. The track is awesome and the june 15th date should be a blast.

That was a great 2 days. I learned so much on monday going slower and learning the line, mostly the hard right turn at the lightbulb. Then tuesday the speed was brought up gradually as the track dried and by the 4 oclock session I was feeling very comfy out there. I have a vid of the 3 oclock session but I'm having trouble loading it on youtube. It's an AVI file, whatever that means. Good seeing/riding with all the born guys :)

Great two days!
Thanks to all in the blue group who came to the classroom sessions! Please send me and/or Ken any feedback you had on those sessions. I got some good feed back from a few, but would like more to improve on that for you all!
I really enjoyed working with the Blue group this event. Everyone that was looking for new things to try were very open to suggestions and I felt it was a great event.
Thanks to all!

Jenni

It was nice of chris to let me take his bike for a rip for a few sessions (thanks again!). I learned how not to have a crooked position the last lap or so. Also, that the sv is still a waste of metal (I will post soon a for sale thread), I am In love with the mid range power of a Honda & gp shift is something I will impliment on the r6. Oh yeah, and Scott's gf is hot :twofinger:

Got home shortly after 11. Just unhooked the trailer and left it. (Pit bull trailer stands are the shit) Unloaded IO"s bike and the grill. (Hotdogs, Chickens and all).
Only a couple small incidents for me. Had the rear tire step out about two feet at the end of the straight and tossed me out of the seat but kept it up and on track.
The last couple sessions my tires where slidding a bit and and I was really enjoying that actually. Def took what i learned on Monday and in the class rooms and put that to work for me. But just pushed the tires a bit to much in turn two and could not pull it back in. So just decided to stand it up and went off roading. Did not touch the brakes and just rode it out and was able to keep it up.
I had a great time though and can;t wait to get back out there!

I didnt get home until almost 1am, fuck living in Boston. I actually had a better time Monday than Tuesday. I had trouble getting myself readjusted to the fact that the track was dry and I only got 2 actual dry sessions before I broke my bike. Bansh saved the day and let me ride the last couple sessions on the SV so it wasnt a total loss. Good to meet everyone and I had a great time but I think that will be the last NJMP trip for me for awhile. Now I have to figure out what the fuck is wrong with my bike, its a honda...its not supposed to break.:(

Made it back safe - I had a blast, it was my first & second track-day and definitely not my last.
The first day in the rain was a learning experience; I was being followed by an instructor for a couple of laps, pulled off into the hot pits to talk about where I was at "line, B/P"; It was good and I took off so I wouldn't loose anymore track time, not realizing I need to let my tires warm backup for a lap, I almost highsided in turn 5 - that was my last lap for that session (had to check my Draws).
Thanks ( Kurtz, Gram, Kane, Pete, Outlaw, and Dan) for helping setup my bike. The bike felt great the second day, I had a blast. Made it to Yellow group the second day after the first session. The yellow group instructors helped alot and the group talks.
Thanks Tony, and yzedf for getting me out to the track
Now I gotta make more money for my new habit

That was an awesome 2 day event! It felt so great to get back out on the track! :D
It was nice meeting some new people as well as seeing some old faces that I haven't seen in a while.
Monday was actually my first full trackday in the rain and it was definitely a learning experience. The Corsa III's could have been a little better  those things were sliding all over the place on me. It gave me a full day of working on my smoothness which really helped out for Tuesday. Hopefully we'll get two nice days for the June event!

Yeah... rains are definitely the way to go if you can swing it.
Keep in mind that rain tires are often up for sale for cheap money. You don't need a new set... even a well used set of rains is going to be better than any regular tire.
The guy on the old looking Ducati was smokin' fast in the rain... on a $10 set of rain tires!!!
In fact, an enterprising individual that is at race weekends could probably snatch up a bunch of used sets of rain tires cheap... and then sell them at wet trackdays for a little profit.

Had a great time! Though I don't ride with all of you out there, it's always fun to watch and learn.
Thanks again to Tony for an always exciting ride, this time in YELLOW!! YIPPEE! Riding in the same group as John was quite a new experience for me. I've always watched him from the sidelines, but to really see him in action made my day/week/etc!
And thanks to Pete and Arcy for keeping me laughing the entire time!;)
