Default Finding brake switch/sensor on a Volkswagen?

Car question...I know, I know. Anyone happen to know where is the brake light switch on a MK7 Golf/GTI? On most other vehicles I've looked at, there's a sensor mounted on the upper part of the brake pedal arm that, when the pedal is depressed, sends a signal to illuminate the brake lights. I don't see anything on my '17 GTI brake pedal arm, and am trying to install a trailer brake controller.

Let's avoid a discussion about whether to tow with a GTI...

TIA!

Look around the master cylinder. That's where it was on older Golfs.

Bet your taco had a spot. haha.

in seriousness. did e-trailer have anything plug and play for that car.

on a side note what size hitch are you going with, according to everything i keep seeing all i can get is a cheese dick 1.5 inch reciever opening for my GLI. And everything is saying dont tow with a GLI but a regular Jetta is okay. for the 180 bucks im more inclined to slap another hitch on Kayla's rav4 and just deal with losing it when the lease gets traded in.

Plug and play for lighting yes, but for a brake controller...

Why do you need anything larger than a 1.25" receiver for the GLI?? You're not doing anything greater than class 1 towing ( >2000 lbs)

Trailer has welded coupler requiring 2-5/16” ball, which only comes on a 1” shank. 1-1/4” receiver ball mounts only come with 3/4” shank hole. So I need a 2” receiver...which is available from EcoHitch, but is almost 3x as expensive.

Thanks Kurlon, that confirms what I just received from a VW forum. Will be a PITA to test, but hopefully it’s there.

Can you just tap into the third brake light on the upper rear parcel shelf? or is it too long of a run?
