Yes, as long as they don't deem the warranty voided due to mods

Probably... but how do you "repair" a MAJOR engine design flaw? Keep throwing motors at it every 30k? They took an existing, semi-open deck block, raised boost to retard levels, and shoved it into what was supposed to be an STI killer. Now the cylinders are slightly shifting in the block, causing the piston to shear off the head gasket, and hydro lock the motor with coolant. Unless they go back to the drawing board, and completely close the deck, (you know, like an STI and EVO) it's just going to keep happening.

I'm sure that all the people that paid $10k+ over MSRP will be absolutely thrilled with that solution.

I had a feeling you were implying there was a deeper design flaw. I haven't really kept on it truthfully. Appreciate the info

I haven't been following the issues at all but the couple articles that popped up from google search now all imply that the incorrect head gasket was installed. If what you stated is true the core issue goes a lot further beyond using the correct gasket.

Edit: Did some more quick reading. Seems like a possible combo of bad HG design for application and use of open deck with high boost as Noel stated.

Aggressive when compared to other car makes, no.

VW's is a subtle aggressiveness; enough to hint at the car's capabilities, without drawing a lot of attention.

If I paid $10k over MSRP, and Ford told me it was just a bad head gasket design, I be tempted to drive it through the first blue oval laden building I could find.

The first mistake is paying over msrp for anything.

Wrong, on all counts... per usual...

Your math says that you could do that for $23k... (which I don't agree with). I spent $26k on the Camaro. Add $2400 for .202 intake heads, cam, and tuner, install everything myself, make well over 600hp and shit all over damn near everything on the road... for $28,400.

Seems like you'd spend a bit more than half, to see nothing but the rear bumper of the Camaro. The FRS no longer exists, and the Toyota 86 starts at $26,255. And maybe 1 in 1000 people will strike up a conversation about your FRS while pumping gas, at stop lights, restaurant parking lots, from moving vehicles, or any of the other places that people constantly want to talk to me about my Camaro.

All we've learned here is that Gabe still sucks.

Not that a ZL1 is even close to within the budget, but does it make more sense to get a 1LE and upgrade it rather than getting a ZL1 off the line?
