Default Are there good qualities about living in Vermont?

So an opportunity came across my plate for a job in VT. The pay is amazeballs (about 20% more than I make now) and the job has a pension plan with a full vesting after 5 years. I just don't know about living further north than I already do. On the good note I would be near all my favorite skiing areas and we have been talking about buying a condo anyway for winter getaways. I just am not sure about being up there full time.

So what are the good bad and the ugly about living in VT full time?
Good:
Land. I love land and low traffic
Legal, Outdoor quads, bikes and snowmobiling.
Right near all the ski resorts
Right near downhill MT biking and great MT bike trails
Cost of living is better overall

Bad:
It's colder longer and snow last longer.
Shorter summers
some areas are to rural even for me.
Not sure on school systems for my kids.

What are your thoughts?

It really REALLY depends on the part of the state you will be living in. There are some parts where its 45 minutes to a grocery store and others that will have a short trip to everything you need. They are also giving out 10k to move there as well....The best parts of the state are like living in Canton CT or Woodstock CT where its a manageable drive to a small city(Think Rutland VT, Waterbury VT or Woodstock VT) If you want something like suburbs then you have to live outside Burlington where there is still an airport and things to do within a short ride. And then there are the winters where roads are closed and you NEED 4x4 and even then you will have fun on some back roads. I've got land by killington and with power outages etc the winters can be tough...

check out facebook groups for the area...ask the locals....You'll prolly get some crappy responses, but I'm sure you'll get some quality ones also....

Depends on where you would be. Brother inlaw and his wife are looking to move back down here after being in VT for 2 years.

Is the job close enough to NH to consider living there and commuting?

It is reasonable to commute from New Hampshire. I didn't think about that.

Tons of good , very little bad …..

It all depends upon your mind set, I suppose .

Maybe you would qualify for this program currently being offered.

You have my number if you want some detailed descriptions, about the individual counties.

Taxes. It was what changed my mind. Depending on how much you make that 20% will be eaten up as soon as you move. That 10k program is almost a joke as it will cost people nearly that much in additional tax burden over the course of a few years, that assuming your one of the few chosen for it.
