K&N quality control has gone to shit.

There's a well-documented recall on those filters. I happen to have a K&N on my bike, but it's not subject to the recall. It'll be the last K&N oil filter I ever buy.

A number of track and race organizations have banned them due to failures that ruined people's whole day.

Just go with OEM and a hose clamp and save yourself the hassle.

Clamp isn't required anymore, but it is recommended for TTD.

If not using a clamp it is recommended that you at least ride the bike a little bit to make sure it isn't going to fail after changing the oil.

Unrelated issue is that people think the nut is there for tightening the filter. It's not.

It's a neat idea on paper but the execution is dreadful.

Well I just got back from 8 says and 2117 miles in the west so little burnt but will get back to it soon enough. Supposed to go to Canada end of the month
