Agreed, he is a jerk but, I have much respect for him. Going from ama champ to wsbk champ in a year was super impressive. Than let's not forget his gp wins.

Nice. Hopefully this gets more people into the MotoAmerica series.

Is it still a "mid-life" crisis at age 40?

I've been a fan since he started kicking everyone's ass in the old school Formula Extreme class. Hopefully he's still got it. Although I think a "Spies" operating at 80% capacity is more than enough to take the MotoAmerica series by storm.

It’ll be interesting to see how far his obvious racer mentality, drive, and natural talent on a motorcycle will take him, although it’s unclear if he even has a final goal of absolute domination of enduro racing or whether he just wants adventure time with his family.

I’m not sure how much dirt experience he has in his life or how much dirt riding he’s done outside Texas but my money would be against him dominating, only because even though enduro racing at the highest levels is a relatively low pay low glory thing, it still attracts some of the most obsessed and badass motorcyclists anywhere, who have devoted their whole life to this particular specialized area of riding.

I guess it’s all a money and desire to do something different thing, because I can’t see how his shoulder could handle enduro racing but not road racing.

My guess is that it's the riding position (upright vs hunched over) and the amount of constant stress from high speed g-forces on a track bike vs going through a trail at a low gear aka easy pace.
