Default Anyone have a record player setup?

Considering getting in to vinyl. I like old jazz and blues and recently heard a friends setup, so now i want one.

Not looking to ball out to get started. Acceptable player, receiver, 2 speakers, and start shopping for records.

Anyone here have a setup? What components are you currently running? Looking for input on things to watch out for out of the gate. I know that a metal (or CF) arm are key, and a counterweight on the end of the arm is also at the top of the list.

On the receiver end i'd like a few inputs so I can add a Bluetooth receiver to it so the wife can play music over it while she's cooking.

Lurking. My parents saved their vinyl from their younger years and I would love to be able to play them.

I inherited my dad's setup and have been restoring it when money allows.

Here's what I am working with.

Receiver: Pioneer SX-1050
Record Player: Marantz 6300
Speakers: (4x) Bose 501-II
Bluetooth: Homespot

If you end up purchasing an older record player see if you can find a replacement stylus for it before hand. Finding a replacement stylus ended up being a long and expensive process. Only one I could find was from Shure, and cost $100.

Get a cleaning and maintenance kit. I have one manufactured by Teac. Level is super useful for setup. You'll also want a felt cleaning pad and cleaning solution.

This cleaning arm also helps to pick up any dirt and debris as the record is playing. I clean the felt pad on it off every couple records and it's always surprising how much it finds after I clean it initially!

Also be aware of the fact that some of the new vinyl that's being produced has a different ending diameter in the center. The Taylor Swift vinyl I bought (I know), has a larger ending diameter in the center. This causes the autostop feature of the player to not work. Therefore the record keeps going around and around if you don't stop it manually.

You probably already know this, but make sure you are storing your vinyl in an upright fashion. I made racks out of pallets from work and they are great.

I know I am not that close to you, but if you are ever in the neighborhood and want to stop by you can snag a couple records. I have duplicates and stuff I don't listen to that I wouldn't mind parting with!

It's really cool to have a record player with guests over. And there's something cool about not being able to skip a song and listening to a legitimate album. Rarely happens these days.

Rarely happens if joe is in the room maybe. I listen to full albums all the time driving around.
