yup. its not allowed before you are intermediate ranked or higher. i THINK there might be an age limit also. Like if you're an 8 year old Intermediate you're still not allowed to use them? IDK.

go look at youtube for national or olympic level BMX rcing. they are ALLL decked out. full carbon frames/forks/wheels/bars. crazy

My nickname in seventh grade was BMX Beek (lol, seriously) but once I got a real dirt bike and a drivers license, that shit got dusty real quick. Good luck, but it seems pretty close to running 400 yard track meet races to me...in other words, mostly fitness, not so much balls or riding ability. I’d be running close to last place these days, especially since my MCL has had me sidelined from hockey and snowboarding for the last little while. I am looking forward to getting back on the street bicycle this spring though, for the exercise.

So, this is actually fun as he'll, and the skill gap/ room for improvement is huge.

Had my first actual race today. Only 3 total racers in my group (27-35 novice). Took 2nd in all 3 heats (total points set up, not a transfer system), so 2nd overall. I did manage to close the gap on the leader each time, almost got him in the last heat. Once I get my gates down better it will be a great race. If I can get comfortable enough to manual a few of the doubles and hit a few as jumps it will be game over for him.

If anyone is curious and wants to try it out, Trumbull has Thursday practice. Free 1 day usabmx license one time, $5 practice fee nd $5 bike rental fee.

Yes, at the Trumbull track. They have loaner bikes to rent. Not sure about all the other tracks.

All you have to bring is long sleeves and long pants, plus full fa e helmet (you can rent those too actually).

I personally wear gloves, and knee/shin and elbow armor with shorts and a t-shirt.

THIS THURSDAY! I'll be at the Trumbull track for open practice pretty much 5pm till too dark for the lights to work. Saturday is a big race there, so practice will be a nice spread of riders. Total noobs are looking at sub $20 to ride for a few hours.
