Default BMX Racing

Anyone currently do it? Done it in the past?

I just got a mid/entry level BMX race bike and plan to give it a go this year. There are 4 tracks in CT within 30 minutes of my house, which basically means I can ride any day of the week, and/or race at least 4 days out of the week. Not that i'll be doing them all by any means, but the opportunity is there if i have a free evening.

If anyone is interested i think it would be fun.

There is also a nice, used, mid level starter bike for sale in Waterbury for a pretty good deal. I need someone to buy it so i don't. It's a Cruiser size and would allow me to race 2 classes.

Is it still a "mid-life" crisis at age 40?

Let me know when you decide to hit Falcon Field in Meriden. Spent tons of time on that track as a kid.

that will be a close one for me. closest to home for sure.

Trumbull will likely be my main spot as it's close to work for weekday evening practices. They are actually hosting a National there this year, so that will be cool.

Clipless pedals vs flats is like the pirelli or dunlop debate in motorcycles. It's pretty hilarious.

I plan to start on flats for skill development then potentially move to clipless.

I rode BMX and freestyle bikes as a kid. I can't imagine doing it in my mid 40's. MAYBE if i was in better shape, maybe..

there's actually a large population of "Older" racers. Its a lot of people who rode in the 80s and 90s who are having kids that are getting in to it. they figure they'll be at the track anyway, might as well participate.

Trumbull is a great track. Let me know when you are there and I will come down and cheer you on. it is right around the corner from my place.

For BMX racing?!

I raced as a kid and was actually ranked statewide and nationally. I couldn't imagine anything other than standard pedals being allowed. Road racing and mountain biking, sure, but BMX?
