That's my primary tool storage for the workshop and it's awesome.

My ITC membership expires this month. I did save a shit ton on tools in the last year. But I'm on the fence about re-upping it. Maybe next year I'll do it again but I don't plan on spending a lot this year on tools. Apparently according to the same cashier I spoke to the other day, there's a way to get the ITC at a discount as well......he just told me to come see him and he'd take care of it.

I picked the 3500w inverter on Saturday. Setup was easy, it runs smooth and quiet. I didnít get a chance to put a load on it, but will soon.

Is it also capable of running off of a battery? Is that why it has the "inverter" name? Usually, an inverter means you're going from DC to AC...which a typical generator never does.

It definitely doesn't provide power from a battery directly, like the type of inverter you're talking about. Here's an explanation of how these inverter generators work:

Gotcha, so it does AC-DC-AC. That makes sense. I was wondering how they got the 12v out. Figured they were rectifying the generator output directly but it sounds like they're just taking it off of the DC stage. Good to know!

Yeah, I actually didn't realize this had a DC output, comes with a cord with battery clamps. I guess you could use it as a really roundabout way to charge a battery? Seems overkill to run a generator to charge a car battery(you can't use both DC and AC output at the same time), but I guess if you were out camping and accidentally killed your car battery, it could be a lifesaver.

I was also thinking along the lines that the DC port was bi-directional so if you were in a bind you could use the thing as a real inverter too

Not without some re-wiring of the rig.
