Default Riddle me this, Batman -- track tire wear

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that typical wear for track tires is two rears for every front.

My front is wearing a lot faster than my rear. (Pirelli Superbike slicks, SC2 both front and rear, bike is an R6.)

Why? Weak right wrist?

Bike feels great to me, so I think setup is fine.

For that matter, overall wear is a lot better than I thought it would be. I put them on towards the end of last season so I'm sure I rode at least two days on them then; this year I've just completed my eighth day, so at least ten total so far.

I'm confident I'll be finishing the season on this set. That means either two or four more days.

I note here that this set marks the first time I've put brand-new slicks on my bike; all previous tires have been used, so I have no real reference.

Similar situation with pads. The pads came with the bike -- two years ago -- and weren't new then. But they've got plenty of life left.

I figure it's just because I'm slow, but I'm not THAT slow; maybe mid-pack yellow group with TTD.

that's crazy good life!

I get 2 to 4 days out of a rear slick. I never go more than two rears before changing the front.

If anything, I prefer better rubber on the front... I can control a rear slide... less so with the front.

As for brake pads, they wear out without you knowing... and they usually have thickness left. I noticed I was having trouble getting slowed for corners this past weekend... pads still half thick as new.

Changed them out with new ones and what a difference! Because they degrade slowly over time, you don't realize how much you've lost until you replace them.

Cheap insurance in my book. And keep the half worn set in your toolbox for emergency.

You're that slow.

I'm sorry and mean zero disrespect but truly, mid yellow to the guys burning through rubber is a ride into work at 6 am pace.

I agree 100% with Tony on pads. When I did track days I'd plan to do 5-6 days then those pads would go in the street bike. In actualitity, that happened once and I sold the track bike.

I feel like this thread needs a useless comment from a cheap ass SV rider.... its all about being smooth amd having no power.
Got like 30 days on front SC1 slick and 15 on SC2 rear, and I still ask Kurtz questions like "how much good rubber is really left when those dimples are gone"

No problem... I know I'm slow....

Thats what i figured. Guess I need to start exercising that right wrist.
