Default Radiator/oil cooler protection?

Came across a thread on AF1 about some metal guards/covers to go over the radiator and oil cooler to protect them from debris. I guess I never thought about it but it makes sense; there were guys with horror stories about getting a rock through the radiator and having to tow it home and a costly repair. People that have used them say it does t affect how warm the bike gets to much (maybe an additional 5-10 degrees of that). Maybe it's more of a concern on a naked bike vs. a full-faired bike bike the radiator is just as exposed on a sportbike.

I'm planning on ordering a set because it's cheap insurance, and they actually look pretty cool. Just curious to hear your thoughts

I think it is a very good protection that does not weight/cost much.

my buddy has one on his FJ-09 here in Georgia and it's fine. It's still metal and will dissipate heat through contact. It's ziptied to the radiator though, that's the 'factory yamaha' accessory.

I think you should get an air cooled Harley though..it's safer.

Cox/R&G make some for the radiators.

Some guy on the r6-forum was making homemade ones. He used some type of metal screen material and edging foam that was sourced entirely from tru-value.

Yeah I've seen a few DIY how-to's online as well for radiator guards. Unless you wanted some fancy laser-cut blingy guards, I'd at least attempt the cheap DIY route first and see how it comes out.

I just found it strange that I've been on here, GSXR forums, RC51 forums and Triumph forums, and it's the first time I've seen radiator protection mentioned

Never thought I needed one but the vfr1200 ate a rock and it sucked to strip that bike to get it fixed.

But afterwards I never bother getting the guard thinking hmm when the hell might this ever happen again.

For the record I'm at over 100k on 2 wheels and this only happened once.

If I had an adv bike I'd probably buy it. But new old vfr has the side mounted radiators so they are safe.

Also when I looked at the prices for these things didn't want to spend $100 bucks for some reason.

But I don't know your bike but I'm going to assume that the oil cooler is really low behind the tire. I might want to protect that one.

I've got one on my track bike. It runs water and I've never noticed it running warmer than my street bike. BUT, I don't exactly have a cluster on the track bike.

A lot of ADV riders if not most have them on their bikes, but if you are lucky you can pick a rock anywhere.
I think I am picking this one:
