Wife just accepted a new job offer that will be providing a car. Wish she got that a couple weeks ago before I just bought a new commuter beater. Could have started driving her car instead.

This is the best perk of any job second only to salary.... if it came with personal use. If not the thing is always in the way.

Personal use included. Just found out it’s a Ford Flex that’s enroute. Fugly but I’m not complaining about a free vehicle.

I recently found out that having access to a company car for personal use (including commuting) is considered a taxable benefit. There's a three different ways the company can calculate the value, this page gives a short cliffsnotes:

Yes, in wife’s case the company will withhold $100/month to offset fringe benefit tax and reconciles at the end of year.

Yep. Mine is $150 a month. I drive around in a brand new F150 every other year with an unlimited gas card. Best deal ever.

So my 2007 FZ6 with 31k miles has been for sale for a while now. My asking price is $4300 with the seat/luggage/fork upgrades, or $3300 without.
I was offered a trade for a 2018 Grom with 300 miles, plus $1000 cash.

My initial thought was "nope, no trades" but on second thought, I am considering it. It seems like there is a bunch of FZ6's on CL now. I'm thinking I would be lucky to get $3000 without the upgrades (Hawley got quite a bit less than that for Kayla's FZ6 with half the miles). A new Grom retails for $3300 and seems like the demand would be higher than an 11 year old FZ6.

On third thought, my commute is about 12 miles / 20 minutes, on 35-45mph back roads and this thing might be hella fun...

If you're considering keeping and using the grom, ride one before you commit to trade. For full sized adult male humans, its under powered. It will do the job, but is not something i would ever classify as having enough HP to be "fun."

Companies pay a lot of money for lists like the one you're talking about.
