    Default Ow.

tl;dr - do not wear a helmet skirt.

So tonight was the first night I tried this thing out. It works great at keeping the wind out. However, it provides no route for hot breathe to escape causing more fog then I've eve seen in a helmet. (Probably related to a nose size issue.) Under 2 miles from my house I'm about to pull this thing off.

As I pull onto rte. 9 I get on the on ramp which has a stop sign at the end. There is me and state trooper behind me on the ramp, as I come up to the stop sign I look over my shoulder and see another state trooper coming up rte. 9. At this point I am going about 20 because I still have plenty of time to stop.

I turn my head back to the front and bam I'm blind. The helmet skirt flipped up and is now covering my visor. I try yanking the thing back down but at this point I've now swerved to the right side of the lane/shoulder area and haven't even begun braking yet. The front wheel hits a small pot hole, I grab a fist of brake before I side swipe or cut off a police cruiser. Combine with the wet roads (it rained again about 10 pm in Middletown) and sand from being in the shoulder the front end washes.

The bike slides in front of the trooper driving down rte. 9. I slide in front of the trooper behind me. Fun times. The trooper behind watched the whole thing. Saw me fight with the helmet skirt thing. They both made sure I was ok. Didn't even run my info because I told them I didn't need a report. Honestly nicest staties I've ever had to deal with.

I was wearing full gear. Pants ripped a bit in the knees, jacket a bit in the elbow, gloves had a mini scuff. My knee hurts but it always hurts, I'm sure this just aggravated it. Bike has a new scuff on the exhaust pipe, bent handle bar or bent bar clamp bolts.

Again, I'm fine. Could have been worse. I feel like a dumb ass. It shouldn't of happened. With the exception of hitting a deer I've never had a problem on the street. Ill be spending the next rainy day in a parking lot playing with emergency braking. If anyone wants to try this helmet skirt it's in the trash next to my desk. It's free if you'd like to risk it.

I hate stuff touching my neck. I've always worn a normal neck gaitor but this seemed like a solution. Yeah, fail.
