Not me, but interested in your feedback afterwards, compared to TTD.

I did a Penguin "track experience" day (aka school) at NYST last weekend and frankly it was kind of chaotic. There were NYST riders, TPM riders, Penguin track-only riders and Penguin school riders all out on track at the same time.

I never got the straight scoop, but my impression was that they were sending people of wildly different abilities out on track at the same time. Example: I'd blow by a slow rider at maybe +20 mph, and during the pass another guy would blow by me at +30 over my speed... followed by another guy going even faster. The speed differential for that slowest rider must have been eye-popping. I have video showing this.

Plus passes in kind of unexpected places...

It was never a problem for me, but my overall impression was that Tony runs a much tighter, more safety-conscious ship.

Was it Penguin? NYST? TPM? All of them? None? Who knows?

Eric (aka Mr. Penguin) gave great classroom instruction and the Penguin coach I hooked up with was super-helpful. So the stuff I know that Penguin was part of was all good from my perspective. It was the overall experience of the day that seemed a bit off compared to TTD.
Kwicherbichen. I'm old and I'm slow and I don't care. Get off my lawn, ya punk.

Quick summary of the day yesterday, and how it compares to TTD.

I was running a little bit late in the morning, got there just in time for the riders meeting. There was significantly less people than a TTD riders meeting, and the parking area and garage was definitely less crowded. When Eric asked how many people were new to the track, about a dozen hands raised. Penguin runs 3 groups, A/B/C =slow/med/fast. He said B group was pretty full and A and C were pretty light, so slower B group riders might want to ride in A and faster guys ride C.

After the riders meeting, I checked in, and the lady there asked me what group I was riding in, and how many track days I've done. I'm usually a fast-ish Red group rider with TTD, so I said I'd join the A group, but I've done quite a few track days. She gave me a look and asked "do you really want to ride with the group that's never been on track before?" So I signed up for B group, went through Tech. Tech at Penguin checks the mfg date for your helmet, by the way, but he said there's some leeway for the 5-year requirement since its only a track day, not racing. They gave me a #29 sticker to put on my bike. Step aside, DucatiMichael, there's a new 29 in town After Tech, I caught up with B group for the track walk.

First session was at 9:45. First session for A and B groups were all follow-the-leader, second session was 2 laps of follow the leader then go. Between sessions there was a classroom session in the upstairs of the tower. Only 2 sessions before lunch, free lunch was provided by a Kawi dealer in the tent. Penguin runs their groups slow-med-fast, in that order, whereas TTD runs fast-med-slow. Both orgs runs 7 sessions.

John Owens was taking photos that day, and after the 3rd session, there was a body position clinic. Eric's bike was on a stand next to where John's computers were set up, so you could look at your photos and the instructors could critique your BP, and then sit on the bike for them to show you how to improve it. I'm not really sure what happened to the classroom sessions in the afternoon, I went up to the tower after one session, but no one was up there.

In the morning, it was pretty chilly, and I was really stiff from a 2-up ride to VT this past weekend and wasn't moving around well, and wasn't mentally in it to ride at the B group pace, so I bumped down to A group for the last 4 sessions of the day. There was significantly less traffic, and by the 5th session, I was feeling pretty good and riding well. Usually, right hand turns are my "weaker" turn where I struggle with body position, but I noticed a big improvement in this area yesterday. And I actually touched down a knee puck for the first time yesterday in Turn 4. I gained more confidence in Turn 4, especially since I crashed there once last year. I still think I like NYST (and now Palmer) better, but I had fun, certainly better than a good day at work.

There were some 2015 Kawi demo bikes available to take out, Ninja 300, Ninja 650, ZX6R, ZX10R. I believe test rides were guided by an instructor and at a slow A group pace though.

Everybody there seemed friendly and willing to help out, same with every other track day org I've been to. I pitted next to a guy from West Haven who pretty much has the same garage as me, he has a FZ6 with luggage and a DRZ400 in addition to his track bike. And the kid next to him from Mass who just got his first bike a couple months ago, a CBR500, was there for his first track day, he was moving pretty fast and now he's hooked.

Another note: I was surprised to see at least 2-3 people there riding on the track in lace-up workboots.
