I think SV is relatively budget friendly. Truth is that if it wasn't for my offs the only thing I'd be doing to it is maintenance and tires twice a season (and that's just a guess. I'm thinking faster guys might do more).

But... I'm also not cheap and will invest as needed like on my suspension/geometry. I think I've gone to see PK about it 3 times this year already and one more coming up. So it's all about how much you want to spend.

Sv is the budget bike now if you still want to be competitive in your classes. You can get a first gen for around 2k.

There's that "c" word again. I did mention that I used to place "from last", as in, my best finish was 10th... from last.

Actually, I did come in fifth once, but it was out of six finishers. Considering there were about 20 starters, I'm happy to have survived that day.

I already owned a track-only fully race prepped cbr600rr, but decided to go thru the headaches of race prepping my street legal SV650 and racing that instead. I chose that for a few reasons, but in large part because a TON of people I know race them, vs just one friend on 600s...so the "competitive" aspect for me includes racing against buddies, whether I win or lose.

Yea, who cares if you're competitive? Racing is fun! (I say this half tongue in cheek because I'm competitive...)

My best is two fourths, I'm OK with this. I'm doing something I never thought I would do.

I'm so risk averse people are always perplexed when they find out I do this
