Hell I picked my white one as a brand new leftover for 7XXX. I don't think that it would make for a real fun track bike, but it could certainly do it. Its pretty hefty, and will be a pretty good workout to ride on the track IMO. It will however fulfill the spirited weekend riding trips quite well. Throw a bunch of stuff in a top case and go bang out 300 miles.

I got some used F800GT's in that price price range that fit right in what you're talking about. I'll peel through the used stuff coming in at other stores too.

ABS may be better, but it's not a fix for a left turn jackass that doesn't see you until it's too late. Cars every day that outbrake the shit out of bikes can't stop in time in this situation. Study that.

ABS saved me on the track once. Went too hot into a corner the rear end came right up since I locked the front end when I grabbed the brakes and then chug chug chug chug kept I am pretty sure that kept me from cartwheeling. Thats the only time it really helped me out I haven't hit a spot where I had to stop fast in the rain or about to hit someone tho.

I would bring mine to the track in a heartbeat, but i already have bikes for that. I think it depends on the person. If i could only have 1 bike and had to commute like i do now about 5k a year, do a couple trackdays, and be able to go on longer trips the N1k fits the bill for me. But im fortunate enough to be able to have numerous bikes.

Thats why i also said the new 636 though, if i was doing mostly track with some weekend stuff here and there, that would be the bike i would chose (or maybe the new zx10, but thats over his price range).

I have always found Honda bikes to be uninspiring but that is just me. Finally, have you learned nothing from your time at the track? Ducati is a great bike to look at and fun to run on the streets. You would have to literally give me one for free and pay for repairs if you wanted me to run one at any track.
Nice on the Ninja, that wasn't on my radar, so thanks, guys, for suggesting it. I'll see if there are any around.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh, I knowwwwwwwwwww...the Ducati option isn't logical on any level. I just like the look of the platform and the ABS. I feel like it'd be a good clean slate for pimptastic mods. But I should really just drop it.

Hey, I'm in LA...it's like 6 hours south of The Bay Area. Although, that's closer than you fuckers.

Damn dude, that's cheap! Thanks for the thoughts re: tracking it too.

Yeah, if it's too late it's too late. I wasn't referring to a situation where it's too late. Even if it is though, I'd rather be going slower at impact.

Thanks for the thoughts on the Triumph too. Have those been found to be reliable? Also, if I recall, a lot of guys were replacing the triple clamps right out of the gate.

The 675R is sexy, and there's one around me within the range: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...794510120.html

edit: Damn, not sure why I didn't consider this more before. Ohlins, Brembo, ABS, good HP, handles well according to reviews...and the price is right. Hmmmm....
