    Default PeaPod #343 LRRS weekend summary 09-2017

    Short and sweet.

    Ran consistent 1:23's for the last 10 laps of the AM GTL, 1 second faster than last weekend's race!

    Saturday day Race 2 - Amateur GTL - Shit start, last into turn 1 (two times), people crashing in front of me on start(two times), new Personal Best laptime 1:22.7, 6th out of 8 finish.

    Saturday Race 7 - Amateur Lightweight Grand Prix - Shit start, last into turn 1, good race with my buddy( damn he is hard to pass), 8th out of 13 finish.

    Saturday Race 9 - Amateur Ultralight Superbike - Shit start, last into turn 1, quick laptimes in the race, 6th out of 9 finish.

    way to go with the new PB! consistent 23's are good work. Sounds like you need some practice starts to get up with the main pack. They'll tow you right into consistent 22s.

    Yeah, as the report shows, my starts need major work. Need to figure out what the issue is. Seems like everyone else get that quick little 10 foot jump, whereas I slowly creep off the line.

    You're not alone in this. This year I cannot nail down my starts for shit.

    What are you currently doing for a race start? What RPM are you launching at? What are you doing with the clutch? Where are your feet?

    Even as a novice my race starts are generally excellent. Almost always enough to get the holeshot, sometimes by a mile. Seeing as we're on the same bike, on a EX650 I tend to rev between 8-9k, clutch at the grab point/slightly past it. Left foot on the peg ready to shift, and right foot on the ground holding my bike from creeping. I let the clutch as far past the grab point that my leg can handle without creeping. When the lights go out I let the clutch out enough to jump, and even wheelie a bit but not enough to loop it. I can't exactly tell you where that point is in the clutch, but some practice will help you find it.

    Your mileage may vary, but that's what's worked for me. And I'm still experimenting with it. Some people put both feet down to be able to let even more clutch out. Some even hold their front or rear brake. One thing you should always do is start every practice with a practice start. Even pit in a few times and do it again if you need to, but always do it at least once.

    I don't know about pea pod, but for me this technique has caused me to have shitty starts all year long.

    This is basically what I do on the Fizzer, 8k, friction start point on the clutch then WFO and feed'er out as fast as I can without looping.

    On the R6 it's more of a "OH SHIT" thing still.
