    Default Sta-bil

    I got into a discussion yesterday with my garage mate at Thompson about Sta-Bil. I have and will always use it in engines with a carburetor, snow blower, my dirt bikes.... But do you all use it in your fuel injected street/track bikes for the winter? I never have, never had an issue, but maybe I have been lucky. Just wanted to see what the general consensus was on using it on a modern bike.

    Never used it in fuel injection. Never had an issue.

    My uneducated assumption is that pressure from the fuel pump through fuel lines and injectors will blow out any gunk that has formed while sitting. Now if I knew I was putting away a bike to sit for a full year or more, I'd probably drain the whole system, fuel injected or not.

    I had an issue with the mille years ago that turned out to be partially clogged injectors. They were still working but the fuel was coming out in a stream instead of a spray. The result was extremely hard starting which eventually led to the destruction of my sprag clutch. At the time I felt I wasn't experienced enough to tackle the job so I ended up buying a used motor (kept the original for the day when I got around to fixing the clutch but still haven't). After flushing and back flushing the injectors with cleaner, the problem went away. No idea if it was due to unstablized fuel or if somehow a bit of debris got past the filter but that was enough to get me to stabilize any remaining fuel at the end of the season. Granted I don't always remember to do so on every vehicle and I've not had any additional problems as a result but that was my experience. I also don't always remember to stabilize my carb'd motors and more often than not that doesn't cause any issues either so...

    I do it on all my injected bikes so the injectors don't become clogged.

    I use it in fuel injected bikes. It prevents oxidation essentially, and I don't worry if fuel sits in the tank for a couple weeks. The bike will run ok without it, but I like to stay on top of it.

    I used it on my bike this past winter for the first time, only "issue" I had was when I took it out for the first ride of the season the bike was breaking up at higher rpm. Once I burned through it and put some fresh gas in the bike ran great.

    If it's stored with fuel in it, it gets a healthy dose of StarTron... Carb'd, or injected. And I don't bother to individually treat every piece of lawn/garden equipment, since I treat my fuel as soon as I buy it.

    Good question...

    This is kind of like the brake fluid thread. Academic question, really.

    No harm in using it, may do some good, cheap, so why not?
