    Fiesta ST.

    Handles great.
    Good power to weight.
    Cheap even when optioned out.
    Looks pretty cool.

There’s about 45 other questions you need to answer.

You could go with a truck, car, suv, sports car or anything really that could potentially fit your short description.

Uhh. Have you noticed what happens to the RS in the first couple thousand miles of ownership?

    Good job...

Just because you can afford to do something doesn't mean maxing out your budget is the ticket.

Obviously... but it's not my money I'm spending in this senerio lol.

35k can buy a lot of car/cars. I was merely stating focus rs > fiesta if one was to break the bank. I personally would never spend that much on a car. Truck yes.

Also to keep it on topic if you're looking for hp>mpg are you a domestic or import kind of guy, coupe, convertible, hatchback, wagon, fwd, rwd? Because again that budget can buy a lot of car.

How do you define "fun to drive?"

Stereotypical American definition is moar powah and nothing else really matters. Those legendary, tire-smoking muscle cars handle like crap.

Stereotypical European definition prioritizes handling over horsepower. For "fun to drive" think original (I mean 1960s original) Mini. No power but what a hoot.

Can you have both? The less you want to spend, the harder that gets. That's why the "hot hatchback" segment was dreamed up in the first place... so you didn't have to go buy a Porsche to feel like you were driving a performance car.

Basic principle: A smaller, lighter car won't need as much horsepower to deliver fun because there's less mass to haul around.

The new Civic R is right at your price point and has been getting good press, if you can deal with the gimmicky Speed Racer styling. I don't know a hell of a lot about it other than that, but I can tell you that I'm on my third Honda (currently drive a Fit), am sneaking up on a combined 3/4 of a million miles in them, and they're hands-down the best cars I've ever had.
Kwicherbichen. I'm old and I'm slow and I don't care. Get off my lawn, ya punk.

If it's a fun car that can also have a handful of utility (i.e. not a motorcycle with four wheels) I'd be looking at the new generation Mustang GT.

Edit - you could probably find one CPO or still under factory warranty within your budget, I imagine..? Maybe I've been cynical, but this and the Focus RS are the only new cars that have moved the needle for me in the last 10 years.. then as mentioned a few posts up the RS pops head gaskets on the reg, so by process of elimination it's probably one of the only 'new' cars that would be on my radar to buy at this point.

Although the last time I was shopping for a car my target market was 11+ year old station wagons, so consider what my opinion is worth lol.

Mk 7 Golf R would get my vote. About 300 hp out of the box, and a tune gets you up in the high 300's hp, with the torque to match it.

It's AWD, has great handling, and the styling is aggressive, but far more understated than some of the other hot hatches out there.
