    Check for air leaks in the carb intake boots. Old bike = old rubber boots. With the bike running, spray something flammable around the intake boots. If the revs go up, you've got a leak.

    a little googling says no gasket/rubber. also says it will eat at chrome, so the slide can't go in either.

    Yeah don’t put anything rubber/plastic/chrome/painted in pinesol.

    It’s fantastic for cleaning carbs once they’re completely disassembled.

    I would start at throttle and cable not carb itself

    It is fine to polish the slide and top

    Last stretch the spring give it more thrust

    Also air leak somewhere, spay unlit propane around see if it recs
