    Default Husqvarna Vitpilen

On the way back from lime rock the other day I (hesitantly) stopped by Roost Motorsports in Thomaston. I sat on the new Vitpilen 401 and 701. Holy fuck are those bikes light. The owner, who’s also the guy who sold me the 630 came out and immediately recognized me. After I played the little movie in my head that ended with me curb-stomping his skull, we had a little convo about them. The 701 supposedly weighs in under 400 and makes 70+ HP and the 401 is a tick over 300 and makes about 50 HP. I can’t recall the exact #’s but I believe the 401 is @4999 and the 701 was @10 stacks. The pictures don’t do them justice. I still visit the Husky forum and don’t see much bitching about the 701 lump like the 630.

He may have been fudging the #’s and could tell I was irritated by him stealing my oxygen so the convo was short.....I’d like to take one for a ride though. They really, really look well sorted and fun.

The only thing was the braking system was like none I’ve seen before. It almost looked like they forgot to order brakes and were like “oh, shit Ted....what the fuck man....where’s the brakes” and slapped some Chinese units on there......I dunno, I don’t remember the name and I didn’t recognize them but the finish appeared “Chinese” if you know what I mean.....the paint....they just looked out of place being surrounded by what appeared to be well finished parts.

Anywho, somebody buy one so I can ride it!

    701 is $13k.

    401's have cheap solid rotors.

Was really looking at the 701 until the price was announced. Maybe I'll find one used in a year or so.

Definitely a great looking bike. I wish it had bars on it and the seating position is a little weird for my vertically challenged frame.

The 701 is tall for sure the 401 I can just about flatfoot, maybe the spring was softer? Either or I like them both. The HP/lb numbers (if accurate) are very impressive, add to that the low CG felt crazy low (just flicking it left to right at a standstill). I have a feeling that it’d be a hoot to ride. But then again I don’t know how they’re geared......and at the end of the day they’re still thumpers, just like my SMS vibration, lack of revs, seating position may detract from anything more than 3/4 hr in the saddle. Still I’d like to sample one. Reliability and maintenance would also be a huge concern. After the SMS debacle Husky needs to come a loooong way to earn my trust again. (IDC that KTM owns them now, BMW owned the SMS production and KTM isn’t without gremlin laden machines in their past either)

This is basically a KTM 690 Enduro motor and frame with street wheels/tires. Reliability is much better than any of the BMW/Red Husqy's. It really doesn't vibrate as much as you think it does. Still I'd rather wait for the Duke 790.

The 790 is a different machine for sure. I have a guess that it’d be slightly heavier though seeing as it’s a twin. It does look the part though. The prototype version was way sexier than the production unit (as they always do).

Wait till you see one in person. This is one of those instances where the real life thing is actually better than the marketing. Pictures don’t do it justice. I want one.

Just curious if you sat on it? I am a tall and somewhat lanky and I usually like a wide seat, but this seat was wiiiide. Felt a little awkward and not very comfortable honestly. But it is a looker.

Sell it to me when you're done with it.
